The most-read story at the Washington Post this morning is by Democratic strategist Doug Sosnik and bears the title "Trump is on Track to Win Reelection." Sosnik's prognostication, based on a tough-minded analysis of the president's personal appeal to his base, will strike some Post readers as preposterous—and others, as tragic. Sosnik's modest advice to his own party is that it start now to "chip away" at Trump's support in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, in advance of 2020. Some Post readers will find this advice altogether too banal, given the gravity of the Trump threat. For them, Newton N. Minow's plea that the five former presidents intervene to "lead us to safety" will be commensurate.
