If the public editors of our national news outlets are serious about confronting Canadians' loss of trust in legacy media, they could start with the hyperbole that is now endemic on their pages. This weekend, veteran foreign correspondent Doug Saunders opined that President Trump's "turn to the dark side" evinced not merely political differences with Europe's leaders but a "pointedly anti-Western stance." If the term anti-Western now applies both to the U.S. president and the ideology that last night brought murder and mayhem to British city streets for the third time in ten weeks, readers are right to be wary.
